Here is MY STORY: I am inspired by stories that create an awareness of how I can improve. The Booster is actually inspired by the business concepts taught to me by my grandfather who during the depression years had a nanny, gardener, housekeeper and whoever else he could hire to give people jobs.

You see, he said, "Sales is King!" in that those in sales are really what makes the economy go around. He was famous for his quote, "Nothing happens until someone places and order -- then everything happens!" That is still so true today! We should be so proud to be involved in sales because it truly is the "stimulus" that gets the economy moving!

My grandfather was attracted to come to America before WW1 with only a few dollars in his pocket because of the opportunities and freedoms to become something that exist in this great land! He had desire and was willing to WORK hard and eventually became a salesman and developed one of the top vacuum cleaner sales organizations in the United States during the depression years and after.

He built that business based on two
principles:

1. People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care about them. He understood that when you take care of people’s needs, that the money and sales will take care of themselves!

2. Sell the sizzle not the steak! (Which means to share with your customers WHY they need your products and how they will positively impact their lives.) When you show them the benefits of your products, they will want to have them! Your sales will soar as well as your customer base.

In 1981, after being top sales in the state of Utah in my party plan company, I seized an opportunity to fill a need to offer products to those in the party plan/direct sales industry that make it easy to apply my grandfathers’ principles. Since then we have developed over 3000 products and helped nearly a million customers to "boost their sales and brighten their image!"

But getting "The Booster" off the ground was not easy! In 1981 Tupperware Corp. used to come to Utah State University for their annual Jubilee! While selling a children’s game a customer said, "Why don’t you come up with a game for us to play at our parties?"

So, we went home over the weekend and we created a game now called "Booster Bingo!" It was unique as by playing the game consultants could use their game time productively by calling out their products instead of numbers. We had 50 games ready to go and within the first 10 minutes as my friend Laura was about to sell the last game I came up behind her and said, "This is our last game and we need it as a sample, but I’d be happy to take your order. How many games would you like as these would be a great gift to take home to your team?" She replied, "That’s a great idea! I’ll take 10!" I then turned to Laura and said, "Go tell Paul to PRINT!"

That was the beginning, we sold 3,400 games ( for $1 ea) in 3 days! It was CRAZY and thrilling! This was the "birth" of The Booster.

After being "top sales" in the state of Utah my 2nd month in the business I had started my own party plan business. It was extremely successful. In fact my party averages in 1980 were over $500! In today’s money that would be equivalent to $1200 to $1500 parties. While at that Tupperware convention I was actually selling some of the products we offered at our parties. But the success of the Booster Bingo game changed the direction of my life. Laura and I then went into partnership and we began to develop products to make your doing business easier. You see, I knew what was missing and wanted to supply the products you needed to make applying my Grandfather’s concepts easy.

Oh, but I didn’t know what was waiting around the corner. You see, we didn’t call that first game Booster Bingo. We called it TUPPERWARE BINGO! We then developed 5 more games that used the word Tupperware in them. We risked all the grocery money we could scrape up along with meager savings to print the games and a brochure and mail them all over the US.

Then the day came that we received our FIRST ORDER! We were so EXCITED but those high hopes were quickly dashed as we also receive a "cease and desist" letter from the Tupperware lawyers! You see, we didn’t know it was illegal to use the Tupperware word!

So here we were with all these games printed and ready and we were not allowed to sell them! But we had a VISION! We had a GOAL! We had DESIRE! Yet all was dashed! We cried! We were frustrated! We were defeated -- but only for a minute! We reached down and grabbed onto our VISION, GOALS and DESIRE and called those lawyers and asked what to do! Fortunately, they were very nice to us and though we had to jump through hoops there was hope!

But the frustrations did not end there! Tupperware, in order to protect their copyrights and Trademarks sent a letter to every distributor telling them we were not authorized to use the TUPPERWARE word. Unfortunately this created the undesirable effect of some believing they couldn’t buy from us. We fought this stigma for YEARS!

I remember vividly receiving a letter from Tupperware that said, "As much as we admire your determination and tenacity you are still in violation......" Needless to say, I then became very aware of what was and was not legal! But those words stiffened my backbone and I decided that I would do WHATEVER IT TAKES to make my dreams a reality! I’ve since learned that sometimes you have to go over, under, around, or through the roadblocks! You have to be determined and tenacious!

Well, my story went on with being kicked out of hotels, people being threatened if they bought from me, not being allowed to have a booth and so much more! (All because of misunderstandings- no one person’s fault- just ignorance.) But finally, in 1986 Tupperware allowed us to be at the Marriott World Center in Orlando for their 40th year Birthday Celebration! It was obvious to all since we were there that the confusion had been cleared up. I still remember meeting Alan Luce (The Tupperware Lawyer) who when I went to shake his hand said, "Give me a hug" and then whispered in my ear, "You’ve paid your dues, no go make your money!" That was 23 years ago and we’ve never looked back! I feel so honored to have had the opportunity to help almost a million consultants to boost their businesses! I am humbled when my customers tell me how we have impacted their lives by the training and products we offer. When I get testimonials about how our products have helped our customers to double and triple their sales it makes my day and keeps me going!

Through the years I have endeavored to inspire you, and in return you inspire me every day!

I hope you will be inspired by my story to be DETERMINED and TENACIOUS in striving for your dream! I know that dreams do come true! I know that if you are CONSISTENTLY COMMITTED to your VISION and willing to DO THE WORK that you have the POWER to change your life and make it better. We ARE all in this together.
